Rescuers race against time after earthquake kills thousands in Turkey and Syria.
The first 7.8 magnitude quake struck near the city of Gaziantep, in south-east Turkey, also hitting neighbouring Syria in the early hours of Monday. A second 7.5-magnitude earthquake hit south-eastern Turkey at 13:30 local time (10:30 GMT), with officials stating that it was “not an aftershock”.
Hundreds of buildings collapsed in both countries, with the rescue teams fighting against the difficult weather conditions in an attempt to find the remaining survivors.
