In an era where global politics is increasingly defined by shifting alliances, geopolitical rivalries, and complex power dynamics, we at Cyprus-based start-up Hegemonic Project Games have set out to create a board game that captures the intricacies of international relations. Bringing together an international team of academics and game designers, our mission is to craft a game that not only entertains but also educates players on the delicate balance of global power. This vision has led to the creation of World Order, a first-of-its-kind board game that is currently live on Kickstarter.
In World Order, 2 to 4 players assume the roles of the four most influential global powers of the 2010s: the USA, China, Russia, and the European Union. Each superpower comes with its own unique strengths, weaknesses, and challenges, making for an asymmetrical yet deeply strategic experience. Players navigate the intricacies of diplomacy, resource management, and military might, all while vying for dominance in a world on the brink of monumental change.
The gameplay merges deck-building and area control mechanics, offering players various strategic pathways. Will you pursue glory through diplomacy, flex your military muscle, or become an economic powerhouse? The choices are yours, but beware—every decision can tip the balance of power. The interplay between superpowers ensures that every game is a fresh and engaging test of strategy, foresight, and negotiation skills.
What truly sets World Order apart is its foundation in over a year of academic research. To ensure realism and depth, we collaborated with international academics who contributed theories and scenarios from political science, economics, and international relations. These concepts not only shape the gameplay but are also compiled in an exclusive Concepts Booklet included with the game, making World Order a rich learning tool as well as an immersive board game.
The game’s design emphasizes non-normativity, allowing players to explore and experiment with different strategies without imposing a singular perspective. Much like its predecessor, Hegemony, World Order serves as a sandbox where players can test their ideas and witness their consequences in action.
As the global appetite for board games continues to grow, World Order is set to offer a groundbreaking blend of education and entertainment. Whether you’re a seasoned strategist, a lover of international relations, or simply someone eager to learn more about the mechanics of global power, this game is designed to challenge and inspire.
World Order is live on Kickstarter now and until 5th of December. Back the campaign to join this thrilling exploration of global power dynamics!
